  3. I just uploaded WSGopher 1.1 to several archive sites, including:

  5. dewey.tis.inel.gov:pub/wsgopher

  10. Well, in the first case I uploaded to that directory; in the other cases, I
  11. uploaded to the appropriate "incoming" directory and asked the admin for
  12. assistance.

  14. What is it?
  15.  
  16. WSGopher is a Gopher+ client program for Microsoft Windows and WinSock
  17. version 1.1.  The fact that WinSock and WSGopher both have the same version
  18. number is a coincidence.

  20. What do you need to run it?
  21.  
  22. * 386 compatible or better; if there is enough interest I will provide a
  23.   286 binary
  24. * WinSock 1.1, already installed and running; I suggest the latest version
  25.   from your vendor
  26. * plenty of RAM; you'll probably want a minimum of 8BM, 16MB for comfort
  27. * the program and files require 630KB of disk, but for downloaded files you
  28.   will probably need much more
  29. * Microsoft Windows or Windows for Workgroups; WSGopher does not work with
  30.   NT, though I haven't tried Chicago yet.  I hope to have an NT binary soon.

  35. * three configuration files
  36. * an announcement file that contains lots and lots of information,
  37.   including installation instructions
  38. * a context sensitive help file

  40. What's new?

  42. Lots of stuff; read the file "announce.txt".  WSGopher 1.1 has convenience
  43. features, features to help network sys admins and Gopher server admins, more
  44. robustness, pretty much better everything.  I even have stuff in there
  45. which will (hopefully) be supported by the new Unix Gopher server, version
  46. 2.1.

  48. What are the terms for using it?

  52.     WSGopher is copyrighted software.  You may freely use any and all of
  53.     the files in the WSGopher distribution, and you may freely
  54.     distribute the file wsg-11.exe.  You cannot remove or alter the
  55.     copyright notice.  Also, you may not distribute for profit the
  56.     WSGopher executable or the file wsg-11.exe without permission from
  57.     EG&G Idaho, Inc.  If you wish to do this, or if you wish to obtain a
  58.     non-exclusive source license, please contact Steve Borror, email

  61. That means that you can use it, you can copy it for your friends,
  62. customers, co-workers, students, spouse, etc; you cannot resell it.  If you
  63. are writing a book or distributing a CD and wish to include it for free, or
  64. if you wish to license WSGopher, please contact Steven Borror as described

  72. annouce.txt file contains instructions for reporting problems.  Supplying
